AUDITION REGULATIONS:

  1. The Hastings Symphony Orchestra (HSO) performance on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Masonic Center Auditorium, will feature one or two winners from its Young Artist Competition. The Hastings Symphony Orchestra will accompany the selected winner(s).
  2. Contestants must be attending a high school or accredited home school in Nebraska and have junior or senior status.
  3. Audition Date: March 8, 2025, 10:00 AM, at Perkins Auditorium in Fuhr Hall, Hastings College Campus.
  4. Performance Date: April 27, 2025 at the Masonic Center Auditorium in Hastings, NE. This concert is one of our subscription concerts as the HSO celebrates its 99th Season. One or two Young Artist winners will be featured on the program. Click here for current season information.
  5. Music requirements are:
    1. Vocal Soloists should choose from the following options: a) perform two contrasting arias; b) perform a recitative and aria; c) perform a scena (the minimum length of which is six minutes).
    2. Instrumental Soloists must perform one movement from a concerto or other extensive solo.
    3. Music need not be memorized for the audition, but must be memorized for the performance.
    4. Piano accompanists for the auditions must be provided by the soloist; two grand pianos are provided for piano concerto auditions.
    5. Orchestral accompaniment for the selected piece(s) must be reasonably available.
  6. Fifteen minutes will be allotted for each audition, and contestants will be notified of their audition time by the Monday before the Saturday audition date. After they perform, contestants will receive comments from the judges.
  7. More than one winner may be declared within each instrumental and vocal division; however, no winners may be declared in any division if, in the opinion of the judges, such a decision preserves the integrity and standards of the Young Artist Competition and the Hastings Symphony Orchestra.
  8. Auditions are open to the public.
  9. There are no fees for this application or audition. The winner will receive two complimentary tickets for the performance.  Travel to and from Hastings is the responsibility of the student.
  10. The application deadline is Monday, March 3, 2025, at 5 p.m. CST.
