Our 2012-13 Concert SeriesSunday, October 21, 2012 - 3:00 pm HALLOWEEN with the HASTINGS SYMPHONY SPOOKESTRAMasonic Center Auditorium An Afternoon of spooky yet musical treats including Dance Macabre by Saint-Saëns,"Witch's Ride" from Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, A Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Dukas. Audience members are encouraged to arrive in costume and all will be treated to a mischievous demonstration on how fear and the macabre are conveyed in music.
Sunday, December 9, 2012 - 3:00 pm CHRISTMAS TRADITIONSMasonic Center Auditorium The South Central Nebraska Children's Chorale under the direction of Linda Johnson and Tom Michalek combine forces with soprano, Julie Clawson, and the Hastings Sympohny in what will truly be a magical time of year. Our Christmas program features an assortment of musical delicacies in both old and new arrangements, along with opportunities for the audience to sing along and the children to conduct the orchestra.
Sunday, February 24, 2013 - 3:00 pm HIGH SCHOOL YOUNG ARTIST CONCERTMasonic Center Auditorium With over 60 years of sponsoring a Young Artist Competition, Nebraska high school juniors and seniors vie for an opportunity to perform with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra. The audiecne will undoubtedly garner an impassioned response as the concert concludes with an equally impassioned performance of the stunning Fifth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich.
Sunday, April 21, 2013 - 3:00 pm A DOUBLE TREAT: JONATHAN SOKASITS & THE AMERICAN CHAMBER PLAYERSMasonic Center Auditorium Pianist Jonathan Sokasits joins the HSO in a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major. Joining the HSO for this concert are the American Chamber Players who are in-residence with the orchestra and Hastings College for four days of musical magic. Besides performing on their own, ACP's founder and artistic director, Miles Hoffman, will perform Bruch's Romance for Viola and Orchestra with the HSO.

Sunday, September 23, 2012 - 3:00 pm A COPLAND SUNDAY WITH THE SYMPHONY Chautauqua Park Pavilion Replete with Americana, the Hastings Symphony opens its 87th Season with a program dedicated to the music of Aaron Copland, including Fanfare for the Common Man, An Outdoor Overture, John Henry and Our Town. Jamie Reimer, soprano, will add touching performances to "The sun is coming up" from The Tender Land, and Copland's setting of Old American Songs.
